Why Soy Wax over Paraffin Wax?
The difference between soy and paraffin wax is the way each wax is created. Soy wax is natural, environmentally friendly, non-toxic and biodegradable. It is made from a renewable source (soybeans) and paraffin is made petroleum-based that is made from crude oil (fossil fuel) which is considered non-renewable. To be clear paraffin and soy are NOT toxic.
Paraffin is the most popular form of wax because of how strong the fragrance emits from the candle. However, there are some things to look out for when burning a paraffin candle. The soot emitted from paraffin wax is generally darker and unhealthy.
Paraffin wax produces certain emissions that can jeopardize the air quality in your home/ space. Some chemicals that can be released may include alkanes, toluene which have been reported to have detrimental effects on humans.
So why are there so many paraffin candles? Well, since paraffin is less dense than soy and doesn’t require a long “cure” time the fragrance is stronger in a paraffin candle compared to a soy candle. The soy candle requires more time and heat in order for the fragrance to be released. But, you will receive a long-lasting, clean burn, with no black smoke or toxins from your soy candle.
